Last night we made a big
error - downloading the latest ZOOM update [5.7.5 (1020)] and running it live
during the meeting without pre-testing it. Never do that! Always
pre-test! 😊
What happened is when playing
background music before the meeting, the sound was terrible! It sounded like it
was being repeated with severe crackle.
I heard that some had had results
from using the 64bit version so I quickly went to zoom.us/download and found
and downloaded that version and encouraged our media brother to do the same. Once
up and running again (re-joining) we found that it had fixed the background music
issue. Great! All was well until our media brother went to play the first song
via the inbuilt ZOOM video player which we normally find best. It came up with
a window saying that a “plugin is required to share video file” with an install
button. At that stage he panicked a bit.
I was unwell along with a headache so was only doing basic support but
as host tried to step in to play the song myself through jwlibrary. I was using
OBS virtual camera (long story) and selected the wrong option and failed. Eventually
after a few minutes our media brother played the song through jwl holding the
mic to his PC speakers for the sound. A bit of a disaster but we got there.
Of course, we both quickly downloaded
the plugin and after that everything for the remainder of the meeting was fine.
Of interest was that the music for the songs was better than usual as well with extremely little sound distortion. We had 53 participants so to have the sound good was a bonus.
